Julien Gorbach: My mother lost the ability to communicate during the final days. I never had the chance to ask her some of the final questions that that came to me after we received the diagnosis of cancer, and knew this would be the end. But life, and death, are messy in that way. Anyway, I just hope she heard me tell her that as parents, they were perfect. The did everything to raise us right. They taught us values and character through example. And the more years that I spent in this world, learning what other people had through growing up, the more I realized how rare and lucky my own upbringing had been. The more I appreciated it. My mother devoted her professional life to trying to make sure that girls would be as prepared adulthood and motherhood as she had been, that they would enter into both with their eyes wide open, as she had done. She was an amazing woman and an amazing mother. I miss you mom…
